JUNIOR SAILORS

2010 Season

The Southampton Yacht Club Junior Sailing Committee welcomes new and returning junior sailors to an exciting new season on the water.  The committee is busy finalizing the schedule and curriculum for the new season which will include instruction and competition for OPTI, SunFish, Hunter 14, 420, and Laser sailing.  We are pleased to announce that the 2010 program will be lead by Head Instructor, Sarah Braun as well as the continuing leadership of Program Director / Club Steward, Chris Weicks. To date, our teaching roster will also include: full time sailing instructor Eddie Moan; as well as junior sailing instructors: Molly Jane Maitland Walker and Hallie Garvey who will assist with the morning program.    

The new season will get underway as of Tuesday, June 29, 2010 for all junior sailors.

Please be reminded that while first year sailors may use the club’s vessels, all returning sailors must have their own boats.

Registration packets have been sent out and must be returned by May 15, 2010. If you have not yet received your junior sailing registration forms or if you have any questions please email us at southamptonyachtclub@USA.net  The Junior Sailing Program enrollment is limited and those spaces are filled in order of receipt of completed registration materials.  The SYC can not hold places for returning members who have not registered for the junior program in the prescribed time.

As always, the goal of the SYC Junior Sailing Program is to teach boat handling in all weather conditions, seamanship skills and racing techniques to both the novice and the experienced sailor who wishes to hone his or her skills.  The program emphasizes fairness, equal opportunity, good sportsmanship and teamwork in a fun and safe environment.
